TAP reports travel economy strengthening4 April 2011, 11:00 pm North America-based Travel Alliance Partners, LLC (TAP) reports that the travel market is on the rise this year, with the first two months of 2011 exceeding the 2010 revenues from their Guaranteed Departures by TAP program. “The significant uptick in our numbers shows increasingly promising growth for TAP travel products, and for the travel industry as a whole,” says TAP Executive Director Stefanie Gorder, ctp, ds. TAP’s call center, which supports the Guaranteed Departures program and website GuaranteedDepartures.com, states that the call volume for January and February 2011 has nearly doubled in comparison to 2010, with actual tour sales up 500% in 2011 for the same months. “The busier call center equates to more sales,” Gorder says, “and, already in 2011, we’re showing a 33% increase in tour sales over all of 2010. This is proof that the Guaranteed Departures program concept is working… for consumers, travel professionals and TAP Partners.”Guaranteed Departures by TAP offers more than 250 tours to destinations around the world – guaranteed to go – including motorcoach tours, cruises, guided RV tours and rallies, as well as tours highlighting various holidays and special events. “We’re seeing a growing consumer confidence, that we attribute in part to our travelers knowing that their trips will never be cancelled due to a lack of guest participation,” says Gorder. TAP’s Guaranteed Departures are operated by its 38 U.S. and Canada-based tour operators, who also own TAP. All tours are commissionable to travel professionals and include nightly accommodations, tour transportation, full-time services of an experienced tour director, meals, admissions for sightseeing and entertainment, and gratuities for handling one large suitcase per guest during the trip, as indicated on each itinerary. Tour prices are land- or cruise-only, but airfare and comprehensive travel insurance can also be purchased through TAP members when booking a tour. Source: Travel Daily News Feed

Airbus CEO Tom Enders calls for investment in the future4 April 2011, 11:00 pm Speaking at a major EU summit in Madrid, Airbus President and CEO, Tom Enders, urges Europe “to invest in improving an infrastructure that so much of the world’s economic and social development relies on”. The Airbus CEO’s comments follow the launch of The European Aviation Vision 2050, an aspirational roadmap of how the sector will handle 16 billion passengers and 400 million tonnes of cargo annually!. Airbus has been involved in developing the vision, which highlights the need for investment in education and research to meet global demand for a sustainable and greener transport network. The European Aviation Vision 2050, aims to reduce CO2 by 75%, NOx by 90% and noise by 65%, compared to levels in 2000, while handling around 25 million flights per year within Europe. It suggests that by then 90% of travellers will be able to complete European journeys in four hours and that flights will arrive within one minute of planned arrival times, reducing flight times and fuel burn due to air traffic congestion. Enders added: “The implementation of fuel saving technology in our aircraft has allowed us to satisfy a 45% increase in demand for air transport over the last decade with only a 3% increase in the use of jet fuel. Innovation has allowed us to do more with less, but these ambitious goals set out by this Vision need investment and action now in order to safeguard Europe’s position as a leader in sustainable aviation, in a changing economic and political landscape,” says Enders.“Aviation supports 33 million jobs and 8% GDP. It is imperative that our investment in air transport reflects the huge economical and social benefits it brings”, Enders concludes. The Vision 2050 echoes the findings of the Airbus Passenger 2050 global survey, which reveals that seven out of 10 people expect to fly more, in greener aircraft and with access to their ‘digital world’. “The future of aviation must take into account technological advances, but also passenger demands”, says Enders. “Air traffic demand doubles every 15 years and as more people travel by air, it will take huge step change advancements to handle this increase in traffic while simultaneously preserving our environment.”The survey is part of The Future by Airbus initiative, which aims to promote debate about the challenges and choices faced by the industry as it seeks to look to the future. UN confirms safety of Japan operations - No recommendation for passenger screening4 April 2011, 11:00 pm The International Air Transport Association (IATA) welcomed confirmation from six United Nations (UN) agencies monitoring Japan’s damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant that there is no health or transportation safety hazard. The UN statement also confirmed that screening for radiation of passengers arriving from Japan is currently considered unnecessary at airports or seaports around the world. The joint statement was prepared by the World Health Organization, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the World Meteorological Organization, the International Maritime Organization, the International Civil Aviation Organization and the World Tourism Organization. According to the UN statement, continuous monitoring around Japan’s airports confirms that radiation levels are well within safe limits from a health perspective. For updates, travelers visiting Japan by air are advised to consult a dedicated website established by the Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau: http://www.mlit.go.jp/koku/flyjapan_en/.“Safety is always the top priority. The transparent and continuous monitoring of the situation has allowed Japanese and international authorities to confirm that Japan’s airports remain open and safe for travelers and transport workers. It is important that governments and industry respond to the challenges of this crisis with best practices supported by expert advice. We are reassured that the UN is not recommending screening measures for passengers coming from Japan,” said Giovanni Bisignani, IATA’s Director General and CEO. Source: Travel Daily News Feed
